{三言二斋} ....生活...梦想...家....

爱生活,爱工作,爱生命

EPT Design

The singer uses self-created language in the song "锡林河边的老人",

And from those unknown words I understood,

That a person should have something to hold in hand and mind,

And a life of no passion would be the most miserable...

The Gramercy Park

The Gramercy Park is an entirely new genre of hotels. It is an “unhip(不谙时髦的)” departure by the man who defined hop. “Now, the only way to identify yourself is to be yourself and pursue a completely personal vision…one that has no definite look, follows no rules, and is not part of any group. The Gramercy Park Hotel is the ultimate anti-brand and anti-design hotel”- Ian Schrager.

Walking inside is an experience akin to stumbling into an artist’s studio or home- an unpredictable and completely personal fantasy enlightened by the unpredictable personal tastes of an artist, a spontaneous mixture of high and low styles, and the interplay between the ordinary and extraordinary.

Tiffany’s new success strategy includes smaller stores and lower prices

At a breakfast fro analyst and investors inside the Wall Street store one week after it’s opening, Tiffany announced an even more significant development: the creation of a smaller-size concept to bring Tiffany-style luxury to a broader consumer base. The 2,000-square-foot store model, tentatively called Tiffany & Co. Collections, will be aimed squarely at the self-purchase customer. No engagement rings or high-priced statement jewelry here, just women’s jewelry priced at about $ 100 to $15,000.

The smaller store and the lower price points will enable Tiffany to go deeper into several existing markets as well as enter some attractive smaller ones, CFO James Fernandez said during Tiffany’s third quarter earnings call. The addition of this new format should ultimately increase the number of Tiffany stores in the U.S. from our previous objective calling for at least 100 stores to a new objective fro as many as 170 stores, ” Fernandez said.

Analysts anticipate that the Collections format will boost profits and returns. Tiffany shares rose nearly 4 percent immediately after the new concept was announced.

The area around the two trees is covered with a raised timber deck of Burma teak (缅甸柚木)planks. This raised deck serves a number of purposes. It separates the surfacing from the root systems of the ficus(无花果科), which can break up on-grade pavements made of concrete or stone. It also protects the trees: the more usual practice of adding layers of soil to the original ground level to cover the root systems carries the risk of suffocating them. In addition, the use of the raised deck creates space underneath for the mechanical room housing the pumps and filters for the pool. The reflecting, cascading pool provides an element of separation from the busy street flanking the site on the east, helping to create an intimate and contemplative space. The sound of the water brimming over the pool’s grooved edges has a soothing effect and creates a counterbalance to the noise of the surrounding city. The reflecting surface of the pool mirrors part of the surroundings, creating a sense of expansiveness.

Vladimir Djurovic’s work is known for its meticulous(一丝不苟的,精确的) detailing and emphasis on durability, and he generally focuses on a limited palette of materials in each of his designs. At Samir Kassir Square, he accentuates hardscaping (primarily stone) with plant materials. Local basalt pebbles line the inside of the pool, and imported Italian Bardelio stone is used for the sides, since no local stone could be found with the requisite characteristics of colour and reflectivity. Local Kour limestone(石灰石) is used for the paving, the long bench and the steps. The latter are made from solid stone blocks rather than with a reinforced concrete skeleton sheathed in paving – this solution, although more expensive in the short-term, will better resist extensive wear and tear.

Man

Comfort in buildings is often equated(换算) with the compliance with standard, measurable limiting values, e.g. for room temperature, air velocities or luminance. Wellbeing often involves subjective and difficult to evaluate aspects such as aesthetics, security, the ability to influence and understand one’s surroundings or the spirit of the age. People do not analyze their surroundings like a physical measuring instrument. They rely on an overall impression gained from more than one of their senses. Therefore, for example,. The perception(感知) of temperature and sound in connected with the color of the surroundings, whilst sensitivity to odours(气味) is linked to air temperature and humidity. Facades and technical equipments in rooms should be so designed that the user can set the room temperature, air changes, natural and artificial light ambiance to suit his individual requirements.

3+X dimensions

Climate design is a planning discipline through which buildings can offer the user maximum comfort for minimum energy. Energy cost is not limited to heating energy; it is also related to all energy and material flows relevant to buildings. Comfort does not just mean thermal (热的, 热量的) comfort but extends to a person’s overall feeling of well-being. To achieve this goal requires an integrated approach to planning in which architecture and building services technology cannot be planned in series but must be part of a concerted overall system. By activating synergic affects in this way, we can create successful buildings that are flexible in use.

An accurate analysis of the use and comfort requirements is prerequisite to constructing a building that is fit for the purpose it is meant to serve at the lowest possible cost. Often a critical examinationof the individual requirements can receal great potential for savings. The location of a building has possibilities and requirements which have to be taken into account, in particular in the design of the building layout and façade.

The Passion We Pursue

"Passion" was the name of the magazine I had once edited in my campus years...
After a whole afternoon's work in library management, playing with the heavy stone samples and moving through the colorful material catalogues, I came back and found this word again, in another way, in Callison.

Thank you, all of you.

Exhibitions? Shops?

The relationship between fashion and art has become so intimate in recent years that it is common to see stores and boutiques treated as veritable(真正的) exhibition galleries. And just as exhibitions have evolved(发展,进化) from straightforward catalogued displays into overly didactic(教诲的,说教的) narratives, the store shows signs of embracing an editorial role. Now content simply to borrow from the behaviors and display the tactics(策略) of the museum, or to cordon(用警戒线围住) off a separate “gallery area” as they would be a café, a gowning number of entrepreneurs see their stores as platforms for their politics and philosophies as well as their merchandise.

Interiors- narratives about ourselves

It is very likely that one hundred years from now, the answers and the categories for a book such as “CONTEMPORARY WORLD INTERIORS” will be quite different. The loft is susceptible to change not only because it depends on a finite resource (vacated 腾出的,空出的 industrial space) but also because the sources of its identity-the studio, the gallery, the museum-are themselves no longer tethered(范围) to a formal canon(教规) of the empty box. Hotels, under the cover-lightening conditions of globalization, show signs of morphing(变体) into houses, campgrounds, and galleries. Spaces designed to heal people live longer. All of these spaces will take on different features to accommodate what it means to be human when a lifetime spans four or more generations.

Interiors are, after all(毕竟), narratives about ourselves, whether we use them self-consciously as such or not. A recent study of our relationships to interiors by the international design consultancy IDEO divides people into “storytellers” (those who decorate), “functionalists” (those who are task-oriented and simply warehouse their possessions), and “campers” (those on the move who barely unpack). But even warehousing-perhaps especially warehousing, whether patients, possessions, or equipment-tells a story about how we think of ourselves. The mistake is to see the interior as a mere container of behaviors and tastes. It participates in those behaviors and tastes. The task ahead is to read them carefully.

Time Travel

A stay in a historic hotel is like stepping back in time to a kinder, gentler era.  Recent years have witnessed many heritage hospitality properties across Asia undergo various degrees of restoration(恢复), some more sensitive to the hotel’s origins than others. Today’s discerning (有辨识能力的) travelers want all the romance and glory of the period, but they also expect a little updating; after all washrooms and personal hygiene (个人卫生) were another story a century ago. The nostalgia(思乡病,乡愁,怀旧之情) associated with luxury travel goes back to the evolution of the grand hotel-today ageing gracefully into grand dames.

In the 19th century, Americans and Europeans with new riches acquired during the Industrial Revolution began to find they had both wealth and leisure time to spend it. Travel to exotic locales(1oc’a:l 现场,场所) became the popular occupation of the privileged few. Around the same time, the colonization (殖民) of Asia countries meant that officers and businessmen needed a place to stay during their so-called hardship tenures to far-flung (广泛的) outposts (前哨,边区村落). Grand hotels along the shipping routes of Asia sprung up like shining beacons (灯塔) within the jungles. The level of services and facilities were of a standard never seen before on the continent, particularly as there properties often co-existed within impoverished(穷困的) surroundings. In 1864, the Galle Face Hotel debuted in Colombo, Sri Lanka, followed in 1876 by the Oriental in Bangkok, Thailand. In 1890, the Grand (now the Oberoi Grand Kolkata) in Calcutta, India opened. Today, these properties are still going strong and are important visitor draw cards for their respective cities.

Cosmopolitan Savvy[了解,机智,头脑]

In1999Dubai was emerging as the definitive city of the new millennium with the launch of iconic hotels such as Burj at Arab and Emirates Towers. In a converted villa tucked () away ina small corner of the city, LW Design Group was formed to change the face of hospitality design in his host city.

On the LW drawing board, sleek computer generated visuals of some of the most important hotel projects in Dubai are being finalized. “2007 will be a very exciting year of us.” Two 5-star hotels on Palm Island, tow 4-star hotel concepts that revolutionize
(宣传革命,大事改革) budget accommodation in Dubai with a hip(蔷薇果,喝彩), young design flair, and two hotel properties for Emirates Airlines are just a few instances of what’s to come.
